13歲的小胖與母親、外公和妹妹同住，一起經營郊區的廉價汽車旅館，因為爸爸遺棄了全家，小胖便得要擔負起家中男人的角色。每天放學後要充當八歲妹妹的保母、幫忙整理汽車旅館、應付晚上那些來「休息」的客人們。本片連續在日舞影展、獨立精神獎大放光芒，亦被影評人盛讚為繼《四百擊》、《狗臉的歲月》與《天使的世界》（Joe the King）後，少見的優秀成長電影。

Thirteen-year-old boy Ernest Chin lives and works at a sleazy hourly-rate motel on a strip of desolate suburban bi-way. Out of place in the middle of nowhere, misunderstood by his family and blindly careening into puberty, Ernest befriends Sam Kim, a self-destructive yet charismatic Korean man who has checked in. Sam teaches the fatherless boy all the rites of manhood.
